Semester Calendar FAQs

Drexel Global is currently planning for Academic Transformation and conversion to Drexel’s new semester calendar.  We will update this page as we have more updates!

How will the semester calendar impact study abroad?

The overall concept of study abroad remains unchanged: students replace an academic term at Drexel with an academic term abroad. Many existing programs align well with the new academic calendar, some may not align, and new opportunities will be introduced. We will share updates on our website as these adjustments take shape. Ultimately, this shift is a positive development for study abroad, as Drexel’s calendar will align more closely with many international programs, creating additional opportunities for Drexel students.

How might study abroad programs change with the semester calendar?

Since most universities worldwide operate on semester calendars, Drexel’s semester conversion may actually expand opportunities for study abroad partnerships. Some current programs may continue, some may be redesigned, and new programs may be added to align with the semester schedule.

Will there be study abroad programs offered in fall, spring, and summer semesters?

We plan to have program offerings in all academic terms. As is currently the case, not all programs or locations will be offered during all terms.

When will I know if the program I want is being offered in Drexel's semester conversion?

Our website will be updated no less than a year in advance of when program applications open. So, fall 2027 program offerings will be posted in fall 2026.

Which quarters are the most impacted by the semester conversion?

Many existing fall programs already follow a semester calendar and will likely have the easiest alignment. Winter and spring programs may need to be evaluated for calendar alignment. Some will fit well, others will be discontinued, and new programs identified that better align with the Drexel calendar.

How will summer 2027 programs be impacted?

Existing summer study abroad programs end in July or August, will not be impacted by the shortened summer 2027 quarter. They will be offered and evaluated for alignment with new semester summer calendar.

How will the Study Abroad Course Database of approved course equivalents be impacted?

Drexel Global will be working with the Registrar’s Office, Academic Information Systems, and other relevant units for a strategy to transition existing study abroad course approvals from quarter to semester credit value. Details will be provided as information is confirmed. For now, students should continue referring to quarter credits in the Course Database and Course Request App.
